Today In Blues - Aug 16 © 2004 L.W. "Junior" Jackson
Arguably the single most influential Bluesman ever, guitarist andsongwriter Robert Johnson, died on this day in 1938 in Greenwood, MS atage 27. Johnson is certainly the most celebrated figure in Blues. Hislegend is well known and his influence far-reaching. Johnson was heavilyinfluenced by Lonnie Johnson, Scrapper Blackwell, Kokomo Arnold, SkipJames, Charley Patton and Son House, but his musical tutelage came fromthe unrecorded Ike Zinnerman. Johnson had complete command of hisinstrument and his stylings influenced all genres of American music.
